Taking extracurricular courses has recently become a heated argument in the academic world, while numerous people think that university students should only focus on the subjects they have picked since it will increase their specialty in that specific subject, others argue they must take other subjects as well because it will broaden their knowledge. I personally believe that pupils should be required to take classes outside their major as it can help them in their daily lives.
Many people state that undergraduates should particularly focus on the academic subjects they have chosen, as it leads to them devoting all their time to that subject, making them more specialized and knowledgeable about it. Additionally, this might lead them to being more professional in their future job, aiding the community they are in. Moreover, they argue that it will cause them less pressure as it only introduces them to subject-focused topics, which decreases their stress levels. In addition, they state that some pupils might only be interested in a single subject. For example, a scholar might only want to study calculus, and not chemistry. So, strictly focusing on a singular subject can enhance students’ expertise in the subject.
On the other hand, others argue that taking diverse subjects can elevate students’ general knowledge about various topics. Additionally, they believe that it could aid them in their daily lives as they acquire new information related to different topics that could be used daily. They also believe that the diversity in subjects can be very appealing to most scholars as it is a way to provide new topics rather than studying about one single subject. For example, the chances of a student feeling bored when learning about diverse topics are significantly less than of a student who is studying only one subject.
In conclusion, while a wide range of people believe that taking various courses can be stressful for students, others think that it is an efficient way of gaining new information. I think that undergraduates must take other subjects as it enhances their knowledge about several subjects, which can help them in understanding a plentiful amount of concepts that can be linked with their main subject.
