It has only recently been popularized that highschoolers take a gap year before starting unversity. Some view it as an advantageous break allowing one to travel seeking passion to finalize decision about their major or to make money for the tuition, and I side with this view. However, opposers of this point argue that such practice often leads to underperforming later as students may return undisciplined and lose momentum.
Gap year enables students to take a break and reconsider their life choices and specialization as well as offers a great opportunity to raise money and acquire resources vital for education. Within this time period, young people gain much more freedom and free time, therefore travelling is a great way to view life at another perspective, as it may often be decisive in choosing future profession. Alternatively, it provides upcoming students from less affluent families generate enough resources instead of getting loans which may negatively affect their financial situation.
Nevertheless, people often make a point that having a long break between the school and unversity may poorly impact their academics. Looking through this lense, it may be supported by claims about short-term memory defficiency. Although this seems fair and credible, it is misconception as such knowledge, if used regularly, sticks for quite a long time. Otherwise a lot of universities offer in-depth reviews of important topics.
To conclude, gap year offers productive break, giving opportunity to make up one’s mind about proffesion or to make sufficient amount of money. Some may argue that it may negatively affect academic performance; however, it is easily solved with regular checks and reviews.
