It is argued that visitors should observe local etiquette and customs, others think the host nation should be open to other cultures. I’ll analyze both sides in this essay and argue why guests should be welcomed.
On the one hand, there are many in the public who claim that visitors should adhere to local customs. International cultures are not alike, resulting in misunderstandings among nations. The tourist’s lack of adaptation may be considered as rudeness, which might even lead to isolation and alienation from the locals. Additionally, breaking conventions might be deadly. For instance, Americans travelling to the UK must drive on the left side of the road to avoid traffic accidents.
On the other hand, some people think that residents should respect foreign cultures. People have the right to follow their own culture, and no culture is superior to another, which means the host nation has no right to require visitors to adhere to its cultural norms. Additionally, allowing visitors the flexibility to go their own way will improve tourism in the host nation. For instance, dressing regulations and prohibitions on alcohol consumption prevent many people from travelling to other nations.
In conclusion, I tend to think that the host country has no right to obligate their visitors with a warm welcome because it can be challenging to change and adapt to new lifestyles when one has just moved to a new area, whereas I think that accepting differences is much easier for the hosts who are at home.
