Today, there are people, who prefer having a first child at considerably an older age. This is occurring, because owning a child is very expensive and requires a lot of responsibility. I think there are way more upsides than downsides, as people tend to get more mature and financially stable when they get older, which offers many benefits for raising children.
One significant reason for choosing to have children later, is that couples don’t have enough money to support a child. Having a child means: constantly spending money on new clothes, extracurricular activities, education, buying healthy, fresh food. These all costs a lot of money, and some couples understand that they are not quite ready for such expenses. Another reason may be that children need a lot of attention. However, some young people are too busy working and making money. As a result, they don’t have time to spare it with their children, failing to raise their offsprings with enough love. Moreover, responsibility comes with awareness and experience, therefore people choose to wait and have their first child after a while.
The only disadvantage from having children at an older age is that parents and their offspring could have a more distant relationships and different mindsets, as the age gap is bigger. Nevertheless, advantages outweigh the drawbacks. Firstly, over time, people are more likely to get new experience, have some new insights; thus, becoming more aware of their lives and decisions. Secondly, older people mostly have a stable job and a higher salary, due to their experience and knowledge, which is very beneficial for rising a child. Moreover, with stability in live, parents can offer the child more love, affection and be an excellent example. In fact, recent research showed that children with older parents are given more attention and better life conditions, rather than kids of the younger couples.
In conclusion, people want to have children later in their life, because they choose to gain financial stability and become accountable enough to raise a child. While there may be some negative aspects of this decision, there are much more positive sides coming with it.
