In recent years, there has been a huge increase in the number of individuals questioning whether students should study at a university overseas or not. On the one hand, there are those who argue that it could bring some negative aspects, such as financial pressure. However, critics, including myself, strongly oppose this view and instead believe that this practice allows them to have access to a better education.
To begin, there is an argument to be made that pursuing tertiary education abroad can put a strain on the pursuer’s budget. For example, most students in developing countries have a desire to study in developed countries, such as the US or the UK. For this reason, it is evident that when they move to these nations for study, many things seem expensive to them, from the cost of basic needs to the tuition fees. What is more, this not only puts pressure on students but also makes their family more likely to be in debt, or even worse, forced to sell their house. This being the case, it can be assumed that if those international students want to continue their studies, they will need to look for a job to make a living while they are studying, which may have an adverse effect on their academic performance.
Nonetheless, it must be stated that embarking on higher education in other countries offers students a progressive learning program. For instance, when people from countries, namely Thailand and Vietnam, apply to some prestigious universities in the world, such as Harvard or Oxford, they can get exposed to a better curriculum. Therefore, it is clear that they might acquire valuable knowledge from these colleges, which they may not have in their own country. This trend, furthermore, allows them to explore new cultures with people around the world, which perhaps broadens their horizons. With this in mind, there is no doubt that if students graduated from those universities, they could have a well-paid job in the future.
To conclude, while some feel that pursuing a higher education overseas puts students under pressure relating to finances, others, myself included, firmly believe the opposite. From my perspective, doing so helps them fully develop, and they could address that problem by applying for scholarships.
