Band 5+: Some people get into debt by buying things they don't need and can't afford. What are the reasons for this behaviour? What action can be taken to prevent people from having this problem?

The majority of people trapped with debt by spend a lot of money on things they know have no benefits and highly cost. This action called consumerism, when people tend to follow they thought to buy things that will ended up in the trash bin without giving any advantages. The reasons behind this can come from person Itself and the environnent, such as social media. However, it is not impossible to prevent and stop this habit.

Human is always compete in their life, especially about someting they possess. When seeing interesting things, human feel they need to own it no matter how much the price. They also forget to consider about the functions. This happen to many people, including me. I experienced about wanting an unbeneficial keychains and bag pins as a teenagers. Even though It was pricey, I still bought it anyway. Now, it stayed useless inside my drawer. Left some debts I should pay to my mom as I borrowed her money that time.

Social media give the biggest impact for consumerism behaviour. With easy access to many platfroms from all over the world by every human being, It becomes a place to create trends among public. Nowadays, trends in social media cannot be guess. It always change over time. For instance, a trend in fashion about baggy denim jeans dissappeared really quick, a relaxed chino pants suddenly took take a place after. This encourage people to buy new items every season and throw the old one.

There are many ways to prevent this habit. Firstly, change your mindset about consuming products and items. With a fixed mind, you can easily choose important things to own rather than wasting money in your desire. Secondly, do not let social media influences you. Skip all the trends and ignore being scared of missing the society glances. In addition, you can learn to make list of comparison about things you really want and things you actually need. It can helps you to stop the habit and prioritizing your life. At the end, you can save your money, and you will not getting chased by any debt collector.
