While some individuals believe that children should read picture books, others say that reading picture books has a disapproving effect / on children’s imagination, like TV. This essay attempts to discuss both perspectives before concluding that I am in favor of the first notion.
On the one hand, picture books also bring some drawbacks to creation at a young age. Firstly, they limit imaginations in a fixed shape. Unmoving pictures in this type of book can overwhelm a child’s developing brain, leaving less space for them to create their own versions of the story. Moreover, children at a young age can not control all the content of pictures that they will see in the books. It hinders children’s education.
On the other hand, picture books can become a good assistant assistance in the children’s development process. First and foremost, reading picture books enhances foundational literacy skills for growing age. The simple, repetitive language and illustrations exposes them to new words, sentence structure, and the rhythm of reading. Secondly, children can improve comprehension by the illustrations in the picture books. Those lively and colorful examples act as visual aids, helping children understand the story and follow along with the text. This strengthens their comprehension skills. Finally, this assistant builds visual thinking skills. For instance, children use their imaginations to interpret the illustrations and connect them with the text, strengthening their visual thinking skills.
In conclusion, despite distinct opinions towards reading picture books , I agree that children can benefit from it if adult and family focus on managing and developing content of illustrations in this type of books
