It is argued that the authorities should spend a significant amount of funding on large pieces of artworks like sculptures to locate them for display in outdoor spaces. From my perspective, I totally disagree with this notion for two primary reasons, while this might boost the economy of their countries.
One reason why the government do not need to allocate plenty of money is other aspects of living. When substantial money is spent on artworks like sculptures, other crucial aspects might then experience a lack of funding, which can deteriorate people’s lives. For example, healthcare and educational centres which might provide insufficient access to advanced equipment for check-ups because of a lack of money invested in these features. Furthermore, doing so would increase the rate of illness and unemployment which results from scarcity of funding.
Apart from this reason, increased taxes are another argument. As the government allocates a lot of money on sculptures, they might increase the payment of taxes, which might put considerable pressure on people who are already struggling to cover up living expenses, such as utility bills, clothing, and food. Consequently, this might drive people to work overtime every day, deteriorating their well-being in the long run.
However, artwork such as sculptures tend to attract more visitors, if they are well-preserved through the centuries. Provided that there are ancient sculptures derived from Italy and Egypt, they might attract other foreigners, who will visit these ancient monuments, despite living in other parts of the world. As a result, this can boost the turnover of their economy, thus enabling people to make a good living.
In conclusion, granted, sculptures can enhance the economy of their countries, it is my firm conviction that other aspects of living might be underfunded and taxes might increase overtime.
