With the development of the digital age, people have differing views about whether theatres and cinemas are no longer important because of the availability of online entertainment. On the other hand, some argue that theatres and cinemas are still essential both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both views before giving my own opinion.

There are several reasons why some people believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer important. One of the main reasons is that people tend to use online platforms as they are cheaper and available whenever they want. As a result, they can both save money and time. For example, online programs such as Netflix and YouTube can give people access to a wide range of movies. Another reason is that people do not need to travel to cinemas or theatres to enjoy films. Consequently, this is especially beneficial fo busy people because they do not have to spend time travelling or large amount of money on transportation. For instance, transportation costs and theatre or cinemas ticket fees might not be affordable to everyone which might cause financial difficulties for some people.

Despite these advantages, many people believe that theatres and cinemas still play a major role in society. The primary reason is that they help maintain local culture by providing valuable information for local communities. This is because theatres and cinemas can preserve traditional stories and cultural values allowing younger generations to learn more about their country’s heritage. A good example of this is that traditional theatre performances and historical films can encourage younger generations to learn interesting subjects such as history and other aspects of their culture. In addition, these places can create more employment opportunities to local residents. This is because these types of places require staff to manage their overall operations. As a result, unemployment rates decrease, while the economy grows significantly.

In conclusion, although there is still demand for cinemas and theatres, online platforms are more convenient for everyone as they are available anytime and anywhere.
