Indubitably, television is beneficial for learning. However some sections of people believe that they can be used only for entertainment. Television can contribute as an important resource in education but at the same time it can be said that it’s widely used for leisure activities. This essay will discuss both aspects before arriving at my opinion.
Television can be used to teach important topics in school. Even though teachers can effectively communicate most of the information through oral method, certain subjects can be better understood by pupils through a visual aid such as a television. To exemplify, explaining various chemical reactions and ensuring that the students understand them is something that can be easily accomplished by showing a video of the process on television such that the student can easily grasp the concept and can remember it lifelong.
On the other hand, television despite being an educational tool it is more popularly used for entertainment purpose. Most children engross themselves in the world of television by watching different shows and cartoons. They get so involved in using it during their free time that they forget the educational purpose of television. For instance, if a child is given an opportunity to watch an informative video or their favorite tv show they would most certainly pick their favorite show.
In my opinion, television can be used for learning and gaining knowledge about various aspects by a school going child. Provided they use it in a safe and effective manner.
To reiterate, children should be allowed to learn about different things through television , however, parents have to ensure that their children are using it for the right reasons.
