Some people believe that travel and work are the main motivations for learning a foreign language, while others think that they should learn a foreign language for other purposes. In this article, I will discuss both views and argue in favor of the latter.
Having language knowledge and also speaking the language of the destination country will help you a lot during your trip. This will make you have a good relationship with local people, find the address easier and be more comfortable. For example, my lack of Japanese language expertise caused many problems in finding my addresses on my trip there. Also, language knowledge helps people to find a good job position. Since the employer’s preference for people with similar expertise is to the person who has better language skills.
In addition to the stated goals, there are several other reasons for learning a new language. One of the most common reasons is studying abroad. A language certificate is usually one of the necessary qualifications for applying to high-ranking universities. Also, most traders learn a new language for business purposes, because without it, they do not understand customer behavior. Bad communication also affects international customers psychologically and subsequently affects economical turnover.
Finally, in my opinion, although travel or work are important reasons to learn a new language, these are not the only reasons, and many other reasons should be considered, as I mentioned in the second paragraph.
