It is often argued that parents should not allow their children to use mobile phones unless they are 12 years of age. I agree with this view because he rising use of smart phone can widen children’s access to inappropriate content and they can be easily distracted by excessive use of smart devices.
One potential drawback of giving access to children in early age is they might get exposure to adult-oriented material. It has become increasingly difficult to monitor adult content on the internet. As a result, children can gain access to the material which is not appropriate for their age. Early exposure to such content takes children’s innocence away and they may become addicted to watching regardless of the consequences. To illustrate this, children who are exposed to such material in early ages may drop their studies.
Smartphones have become an integral part of people’s life nowadays. Therefore, children are given smart devices to communicate with peers, maintain a social life on internet and entertain themselves by watching movies. However, children who are younger than twelve years may not be able to use their devices effectively and could be excessively dependent on cell phones consistently. Not only do children use their mobile phones at homes but they are often seen smartphones even in schools. If this trend continues, children would be encouraged to watch entertainment and play games online, which can significantly reduce their learning outcomes.
To conclude, I completely agree that mobile phones should be banned for all children below the age of twelve because there is a tendency that children might view pornographic material. In addition, unlimited usage of cell phones may distract students away from their studies.
