While some people believe that obtaining a university degree is the most effective way to secure a good job, others argue that practical skills and experience are more important. In my opinion, although a degree can provide many opportunities, skills and experience are more valuable in today’s competitive job market.
On one side of the argument, many people think that a university degree is essential for obtaining a well-paid and stable job. The main reason for this belief is that higher education provides students with specialized knowledge and academic qualifications. Certain professions, such as medicine, engineering, and law, require formal education and certified degrees before people are allowed to work in these fields. For example, a doctor cannot practise medicine without completing university education and professional training. Furthermore, many employers prefer candidates with degrees because they are often viewed as hardworking and knowledgeable individuals. As a result, graduates may have access to better employment prospects and higher salaries.
Despite the above arguments, I believe that skills and experience are more significant in many situations. One reason for my opinion is that practical abilities enable employees to perform tasks efficiently in the workplace. Nowadays, companies increasingly value workers who can solve problems, communicate effectively, and adapt to changing situations. These skills are often developed through hands-on experience rather than academic study. For instance, many successful entrepreneurs and technology experts have achieved remarkable success despite not holding university degrees. Another reason is that work experience allows individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their profession. Employers usually prefer experienced workers because they require less training and can contribute immediately to the company’s success.
In conclusion, although a university degree remains important for certain careers and can improve employment opportunities, I believe that practical skills and work experience are more valuable overall. This is because employers today place greater importance on performance, adaptability, and real-world abilities in the workplace.
