Nowadays, more and more teenagers prefer to take a year off before entering university. While some people argue that it may be unnecessary, I am convinced that the benefits of a gap year far outweigh the drawbacks.
Traditionally, there is no free time between school routine and hard work at the university, so a lot of adolescents often have no time to choose the professional area to dedicate their life to. For instance, there are so many people who changed their career plans after graduating from the university because they had made a mistake choosing the field they wanted to work in. The gap year may prevent this kind of situation. One more positive side of the gap year is that the price of studying at the university increases dramatically every year. This means that a year off after finishing school may provide teenagers with time to find some ways to earn money to pay for their education.
However, there is at least one drawback of the gap year. Unfortunately, it is possible that adolescents can forget some important school knowledge during a year without studying. In this case, teenagers will have to revise lots of materials. For example, remembering different mathematical formulas and chemistry rules requires a lot of effort and practice on a regular basis.
In conclusion, many teenagers claim that a year off between school and university is quite advantageous nowadays. Although I tend to agree with this statement, it is important to consider all the pros and cons of taking a gap year because it demands a high level of responsibility and understanding of your needs.
