People have different views as to whether sports are very necessary for the well-being of society or if they should only be seen as fun activities to spend free time. Although sport is considered to be a hobby for some reason, I believe that it plays a key role in society.
Proponents of idea that sport should be seen mainly as leisure cite various reasons to support their stance. When people do not connect too much with sport and are not able to compete at a high level, they are likely to relax and escape from the stress of daily life just for some time, which means that sport is valuable for rest and entertainment with friends. Moreover, making sports central to society may put pressure on people who just want to enjoy them casually. In a world where daily life is filled with stress, work, and responsibilities, sports can serve as a simple way for people to relax, enjoy themselves, and escape pressure without needing to achieve competitive success.
However, I think that sports improve both physical fitness and mental well-being. If people do sports daily and believe that they cannot live without it, it is likely to teach them teamwork, cooperation and discipline, which brings people together from different backgrounds and build community spirit. As a result, more and more people want to do sport activities, thereby making it popular tradition, thus sporting events create jobs, attract tourism and bring income through sponsorship and media rights. Without sports, many communities would lose opportunities to build unity, promote healthy lifestyles, and develop valuable skills such as teamwork and discipline.
In conclusion, while sport activities can be seen as a form of entertainment, I believe that they should be valued as an important part of society.
