Band 6+: Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Education is one of the most important fundamental components in one’s life. University level primarily aims to provide further knowledge in specific area, such as medicine, science, or liberal arts, according to learners’ need and interest. Most universities bestow curriculum in both arts and science fields. To maximize benefit of learning, it is generally accepted that one should get to study what they prefer but it also leads to the question whether preference is really the best. For those who support the idea that students should be allowed to study subjects that is likely to be beneficial in the future, it might be because of the unemployment crisis world is facing nowadays. In the era of pacing technology, top businesses and companies are likely to require competent workers who have degree in science or technology. Some who study subjects such as arts can find it difficult to find a proper job after graduation. Besides, most of art works may not result in good wage. For those who believe in freedom to choose what to study, it could be resulted from the fact that people are different due to many factors from domination of cerebral cortex to different surrounding environment. Each person could fit for different jobs and tasks. Besides, every subject has its own value and meaning of being. If no one study the subject, its intellectual and core value can disappear, like some archaic languages. All subjects gather together to form our complex social structure and make things move in the forward direction. In summary, my point of view is to support the variety of subjects and learners to study what they like to maintain the balance of this world.
