One school of thought holds the view that volunteer groups only give aid to their own country’s citizens, others would argue that these groups should offer help to people who really need it regardless of nationality. This essay will closely examine both viewpoints before presenting my final thoughts.
On the one hand, it is understandable why some people propose that offering help to local people is prioritized. First, charity organizations, which rely only on donations and support from local residents, have limited resources and money. As well as within their nation, poverty, unemployment and homelessness still exist every day, undermining the general quality of life and slowing down their country’s development progress. Therefore, they must prioritize domestic people instead of those abroad. Aside from that, better understanding helps the aid be more efficient. This is because volunteers of these groups, who are from this nation, have knowledge about local culture and laws, and also understand their mother language, so that they not only feel it easy to manage aid to the ones who really need it, reduce corruption and waste, but also respond faster to emergencies occurring in their own country.
On the other hand, there are some compelling reasons why charity organisations should give aid to people in great need whenever they need it. The first thing is that humanity has no borders. In this day and age, while basic human rights such as food, water, and healthcare are recognized all over the world, several crises such as wars or natural disasters may be worse abroad, endangering human needs and even lives. As a consequence, on account of moral obligation, charitable support should be given to save those whose existences are threatened no matter where they come from. Apart from that, providing assistance outside their nation can lead to global stability and long-term benefits. It helps prevent the spread of disasters, conflict, and instability from other countries. Besides, with a little bit of help to citizens abroad, it is a small step in improving their nation and global image, leading to more international cooperation and strengthening solidarity in the world.
In conclusion, while others would contend that volunteer groups only give aid to their own country’s residents, I am of the opinion that these groups should offer help to people who really need it regardless of nationality.
