Some individuals claim that single-sex school gives children an opportunity to perform rather than mixed schools. In this essay, I will evaluate the rationales leading to my partial disagreement with this way of thinking.
On the one hand, those who support the opinion might argue that at the difference of nature, genders need an educational curriculum which is suitable for themselves. Separating the schools and letting the children develop in their single-sex education helps those kids be more cared for by teachers and parents for their psychological issues, and appearance development…especially at puberty. For instance, some books illustrate strong heroines or emotional stories, the girls might resonate more easily than their counterparts. In addition, when they at a study environment with the same genders, they would not be attracted by opposite gender friends. This is beneficial to their studying focusing on tutorials and staying clear of unnecessary misconduct.
On the other hand, I believe co-education has been a popular, positive approach in multiple countries which educates the rights of gender effectively. Co-education allows students to study and investigate the differences between genders and learn how to behave around the opposite sex at an early age. Learning about the nature of genders arouses boys and girls to be chivalrous and polite, respectful to others; dismiss gender conceptions. The contemporary world needs more developed and thoughtful citizens who contribute to a balanced society without the pervasiveness of gender discrimination. Additionally, social skills could be formed through mixed-gender peer collaboration opportunities. While studying in single-sex schools, the students only interact with same-sex friends, the education includes both genders and allows the children to be in an environment that mirrors the real world. This gains benefits as they can understand others’ perspectives on various issues. In the presence of the opposite sex develop a positive self-image and working in groups, get used to real-life work in the future career.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge the logic behind this opinion which suggests that adolescents should be raised in single-sex schools, give them an opportunity to develop gender strengths. However, co-education provides several advantages and supports children’s ability in soft skills which is necessary for following careers and knowing early how real life operates; thus, setting needed personal qualities as a contemporary citizen.
