People have different views about whether children should start their formal education as early as possible or delay it until they are at least 7 years old. This essay attempts to shed light on both perspectives before concluding that I am in favor of the latter notion.
On the one hand, it is easy to see why some parents want their children to start formal education at an early age. This is because early childhood education can help children become more prepared for formal schooling. To be more specific, if kids can go to primary school, they will know how to read or calculate some simple exercises. Therefore, children can set a foundation of knowledge which would be really useful when studying at primary school. In addition, preschool and early education settings provide opportunities for children to develop soft skills. Kids would feel more confident about themself since they can strike up a conversation with their friends or teachers without fearing of stupid. This is evident with how many parents often send their children to formal schooling once they immediately become toddlers as they want to see their kids get a start to their educational career and succeed earlier than other friends.
On the other hand, there are a host of compelling reasons as to why I am convinced that postponing children’s education until the age of 7 might be better. One reason is that delaying formal education allows children to enjoy a more extended period of childhood. In fact, if children have to go to school at a very early age, they will have to do their own homeworks, which might create pressure and stress on children. As a result, from 1 to 6, they should not go to school and stay at home to create good memories or experiences with their parents. Another reason is that providing education until around age 7 allows children to begin their academic journey when they are developmentally more prepared. At this age, they would become more aware about themselves as well as set a clear goal when going to school. Consequently, children would study faster and be more productive.
In conclusion, while sending children to school early can give children an early start to success in the future, I contend that delaying their education until they turn 7 years olds is more preferable since children by then will be able to handle the class.
