Some people believe that competing with their counterparts as an employee or a student is beneficial. However, others think that cooperation is better than competition in many situations. In my opinion, the advantages of cooperating outweigh the benefits of competing.
On the one hand, proponents of competing in daily life believe that competition is a key to motivation. In other words, they claim that if the concept of winning did not exist, individuals would not have been motivated to boost their intellectual skills or foster their creativity. Hence, residents from pupils to athletes strive to reach their best version in order to win and defeat others. For instance, according to research conducted by psychology professors in the university of Harvard, the scores of students of the mentioned field had been decreased in recent years. Nevertheless, they decided to motivate them by implementing a competition among them. As soon as the pupils found themselves competing with their counterparts, they tended to strive more to achieve better grades than others.
On the other hand, those who agree with cooperation believe that people who receive assistance from their collegues or classmates tend to strive harder than before. For instance, doctor Henry Smith who is a renowned psychologist claims that 88 percent of his patients who work in a cooperative environment, have a strong tendency to work harder than the patients who work in a competitive area.
To draw a conclusion, some people think being in a competetive environment is a good thing. However, others believe that cooperation makes individuals more motivated. In my opinion, although competition can be beneficial in some cases, cooperation is more advantageous.
