Competition is an essential part of our daily lives. It start from the childhood and presence together with us up the older age. But is it that good for us, does it give us any benefit or we should leave it and cooperate more.
From one hand, competition can lead to a personal growth. It empowers you to keep studying, developing your soft or hard skills. By seeing other successful stories you can get motivated and take steps to improve yourself, change your life for better. From my personal experience I see it on a daily basis at the office: the way how my coworkers are doing their tasks, how they are using professional knowledge, most probably you will also try your best to reach that level. Make your job easier, less complicated to achieve the final result and of course in the nearest future be promoted with a salary raise.
From another hand, competition drains your mental health and power. You’re starting to compare others with yourself, always trying to be the best in the class, in the workgroup and so on. But let’s see it from the point of personal happiness. Will your state which is drained of power in that rat race make you genuinely happy? Will that continuous fight make you feel like you’re enjoying the life you have? I have seen preschoolers who are already involved in that competition from early age. Even being so small human beings they are competing with those who supposed to be their sandpit friends and loosing those happy and fun years of being a child. In some particular situations cooperation can end up with a greater result.
Here’s the question: should the competition be a real priority or it’s better to find more rational solution. I’d like to conclude this discussion with my own opinion on the topic. It’s being a great way to lead your life for the best by competing against other people, but you should find a balance between competing and cooperating. Both can help us in our dreams, in our lives, but it’s barely impossible to get everything in this entire world. Focus on living your life, not surviving. Take the opportunities, work on yourself, meanwhile make a step back and relax for a while by giving others a chance to lead over you.
