Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important in this modern world. However, it is often argued whether the government policies are effective without the individual efforts. In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives and argue that both the public and the government share equal responsibilities in this matter.
On the one hand, most serious environmental issues can only be solved through policy enacted by the government rather than individual efforts. Some major issues related to the environment such as air pollution, water contamination, and forest fire are generally caused by multiple factors. While not all causes can be addressed, the authorities have all the necessary resources and justified power to tackle some of the main factors. For instance, large factories contribute significantly to carbon footprint and chemical waste that may affect, air, soil and water. It is the strict regulations by the government that could effectively reduce the disposal of waste and carbon into the environment. The punishment may be applied to ensure the successful implementation of the policy.
However, the success of governmental policies relies heavily on how individuals respond to them. Even though the authorities can improve the environment through large-scale efforts and effective regulations, such strategies may not be successful without the support from the general public. For example, the obligation to use reusable bag to minimize the risks of plastic waste can be effective only if the people in general follow this instruction. This shows how individual actions are essential in supporting the governmental efforts to deal with environmental degradation.
In conclusion, while major challenges related to the environment demand the government roles, support from the individuals are crucial for effective outcome. Therefore, both parties have equally crucial roles to mitigate environmental risks.
