Global warming is one of the most urgent environmental issues facing the world today. While some people argue that raising fuel prices is the most effective way to address this problem, others believe that alternative measures such as renewable energy and public awareness would have a greater impact. I agree with the latter view, as I believe long-term solutions are more sustainable and fair.
Supporters of higher petrol prices argue that it would reduce the number of cars on the road, leading to lower carbon emissions. As fuel becomes more expensive, people may be encouraged to switch to public transport, walk, or cycle. Additionally, industries might invest more in energy-efficient technologies to cut costs. However, this approach can disproportionately affect low-income individuals who rely on their vehicles for daily life. The wealthy, on the other hand, may continue to drive without concern for fuel prices, making the measure less effective overall.
In contrast, investing in renewable energy such as wind and solar power offers a cleaner and more sustainable way to combat global warming. These sources produce no greenhouse gases and can replace fossil fuels in electricity generation, transportation, and industry. Moreover, environmental education and awareness campaigns play a vital role in changing people’s attitudes and habits. If individuals understand the consequences of their actions, they are more likely to adopt eco-friendly behaviors such as recycling, reducing energy consumption, and supporting green policies.
Although increasing fuel prices may have some short-term benefits, I believe that cleaner energy and public awareness offer more effective and long-lasting solutions to global warming. A combination of education and sustainable technology is key to protecting the environment for future generations.
