Some people firmly believe that children should learn about patriotism in public schools. In my opinion, teaching patriotism at educational institutions such as schools is extremely important because it prepares children to protect their country and fight for its rights when required. The primary reason for teaching patriotism at school is children’s love and dedication towards their homeland, which is a valid reason for young children to learn about patriotism. In particular, they will be able to identify what is the best or the worst for their homeland, and this way they can fairly and argumentatively defend their country’s rights. For example, nowadays, Georgian folks are holding a rally against the government and expressing their ideas clearly and confidently with ease, which means that they are patriots. Hence, gaining knowledge about patriotism is valuable for our country’s thriving future. An additional reason for my stance is that people become more intelligent and knowledgeable because as they understand patriotism, they get well aware of the history and their country’s values as well. For instance, you cannot call yourself a patriot if you are ignorant and inexperienced in terms of knowledge that directly relates to patriotism itself. Accordingly, patriotism not only encourages us to live and protect our motherland, it also makes us more proficient about political and economical situations in the country. In conclusion, as long as it is taught in a way that does not discriminate against other individuals’ beliefs, patriotism should be taught in schools.
