There is no denying the fact that competition plays a vital role in modern society. While there is a commonly held belief that men are more competitive than women, there is also an argument that opposes it. In my opinion, I disagree that males are naturally more competitive than females.
To begin with, men’s hormones such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone influence their attitude , leading to aggressive behavior. In other words, these hormones lead them to become more competitive than females, which attracts females by showing their power and muscular. In addition, men are leaders by nature, so this makes them more aggressive. For example, a questionnaire conducted by Public Health Department in University of Miami in 2022 showed that men were more likely to express aggressive behavior than women mainly due to the higher level of testosterone.
Another point to consider is that women are good at multitasking, which is a trait men cannot compete with. It is also possible to say that women can tolerate more pain and pressure than men, which gives them credit. Moreover, women also have low level of testosterone hormone that affect their behavior, leading to aggressive behaviors. For instance, a study published in 2022 in the American Journal of Psychology showed that women tend to support and show empathy more than men, because their oxytocin and estrogen levels are higher than men.
In conclusion, despite people having different views, I believe that competition is not related to gender; it is acquired from environment, society, and culture.
