Band 6+: Some people think that schools should stop using books and, instead, use videos, computers, and other modern technology for teaching. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is argued by some people that books shouldn’t be used as a teaching method for students in school as they are tedious instead they can learn through various forms of entertainment. While I acknowledge that entertainment media can be a diverse learning approach for students, I believe that books can be also an interesting way for students to learn if they are instructed properly by teachers.

On the one hand, teachers can use a range of entertainment media as an interesting teaching method for learners at school. Entertainment media can appeal to a large number of students, especially young children as they are naturally curious about new things, particularly those that are entertaining and fun. Moreover, when educators combine knowledge with various forms of entertainment media, young students should concentrate more easily on their lessons, enabling them to acquire useful knowledge without feeling under pressure and also increasing their interest in studying. For example, many schools in developing countries have TVs which teachers can use them to convey knowledge about life skills to their pupils through meaningful short cartoon videos, whereas a quantity of schools have contruscted rooms equipped with computers for their students to use, encouraging them to learn how to operate modern devices without being forced. As a result, students can learn via entertaining activities.

On the other hand, I would say that books are still essential learning materials despite its nature boredom. Although forms of entertainment media can attract lots of students, they can lead students to be addicted and result in neglect the importance of studying. Additionally, entertainment media may contain misinformation that are extremely dangerous for students, while books are usually reviewed and verified by reliable authorities before publishing. For instance, teachers nowadays still use books as a traditional method to provide crucial knowledge to students due to its convenience without worrying about misleading information. Therefore, students still need to rely on books due to the accuracy information they provide.

In summary, even entertainment media can be more engaging to students and make learning more easily, I believe that books are still students’ priority when choosing learning resources.
