It is true that many people criticize modern technologies because they have some side effects on adolescents’ reading and writing abilities by their increasing consume on an unprecedented scale for communication. I agree with this statement to some extent, but I think individuals should not be dismissive of the numerous advantages of high-tech devices.
On the one hand, nowadays people would rather contact with each other in virtual environment than face to face, and using new instruments such as computers and cellphones are growing up exponentially to the detriment of humanity, especially in their youth. this environment and applications provide some handy features to communicate like video chats, video messages, voices and so forth, without adopting any special skill. Not only do pupils spend huge amounts of time on social media, but it also depletes free times that could be allocated to enhance reading or writing performances by unvaluable books or newspapers.
On the other hand, computers and mobile phones offer various benefits to us. Firstly, people could easily have unlimited accessibility to news, books, encyclopedias, manuals, dictionaries and so on, therefore these devices could significantly improve average levels of society’s reading ability. Secondly, our ancestors faced challenges with their old equipment due to the lack of editing capabilities and the time-consuming nature of its use. besides some applications are constructed to check writing and give feedbacks to their consumers. Finally, the outcome depends on our perceptions and perspectives. If the government takes steps to inform all members of the public about the best ways to use modern technologies, it could be beneficial for everyone.
In conclusion, every new product marries up both negative and positive characteristics. however, due to the lack of adequate training in the proper use of technology, young people’s reading and writing ability could be damaged, I do believe that we should not overlook its merits.
