In today’s interconnected world, there is an ongoing debate about whether technological advancements exacerbate socioeconomic disparities or create equal opportunities for both the rich and the poor. While some argue that technology benefits all social groups, others believe it widens the wealth gap. This essay will discuss both perspectives and contend that although technology has contributed to economic inequality, its continuous development is gradually bridging the gap.

On the one hand, there is a technological divide due to the development of technology. First and foremost, high-cost technological advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI), modern medical equipment, and high-tech education are accessible for the affluent. While low-income individuals may struggle to keep up with rapid changes due to the high cost of sophisticated technology. It leads to disproportionate access to digital resources between two levels of society. For example, children who live in remote and isolated areas face difficulties in online learning compared to those in urban areas.

On the other hand, it is believed that technology creates more equal opportunities for all. Firstly, as the result of democratization of technology more individuals can now benefit from technological advancements. High-tech devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers are more affordable which support the financially disadvantaged. Secondly, there are numerous free and open-access knowledge platforms which offer online courses and facilitate remote learning. It is easy for people to enhance their skills by upskilling and reskilling through e-learning. For instance, students and workers can learn IT and marketing skills or learn new languages freely on online websites which assist them in better occupations.

I firmly believe that the benefits of technological advancements outweigh their drawbacks. Despite the fact that cutting-edge technologies are often costly, they are becoming increasingly affordable over time. Additionally, technology not only creates equal access to online education, but also bridges the digital gap between the wealthy and the underprivileged. Therefore, if managed properly, technology can improve the economic inequality issue of society.

In conclusion, while the range of technology may widen the gap between the upper class and the lower class, its potential to empower disadvantaged groups is significant. Governments and businesses can play a role in making technology more accessible for different backgrounds.
