Innovation in technology is boundless, and so are people’s perspectives on its advancements. In the present day, it is argued whether the availability of modern and advanced technologies is escalating the differences between the public from distinct classes by making inequalities more apparent or whether they bring unity within diverse individuals. As a student with a strong background and interest in technology, I will give further explanations regarding this issue.
Technology is a crucial aspect of modern life and is evident in every sector of our society, including education. Students pursuing their education in private or prestigious schools often benefit from learning with exceptional educators, world-class curriculum, and cutting-edge facilities that support their learning. Contrastingly, students in underprivileged schools may face significant challenges, such as limited access to modern tools, outdated resources, and inadequate infrastructure, which can hinder their educational progress. Despite these barriers, students from underprivileged schools may still achieve similar educational outcomes through the internet, which provides access to a wealth of free learning resources, online courses, and virtual mentorship programs.
The internet is a widely accessible and convenient technology that provides opportunities for everyone to utilize. Online platforms like Art of Problem Solving and Mathematics Stack Exchange enable diverse students to free and quality resources in advanced mathematics, regardless of their financial circumstances. In fact, I have been using these platforms for the past two years to prepare my math competitions and I have encountered a lot of students from different background, including the underprivileged who have the same passion to delve into math.
On the other hand, the growing reliance in technology may highlight social inequalities. Wealthier students are better positioned to maximize the benefits of internet, as they often have personal devices and stable internet connections. Meanwhile, those from lower-class background may struggle with unstable connectivity, shared devices, or limited digital literacy, exacerbating the divide between socioeconomic classes.
All in all, while modern technologies may accentuate to disparities in social classes, they also hold the power to create opportunities for underprivileged communities and promote unity. For me, internet allows individuals from diverse backgrounds to connect, share ideas, and work on discussions. Initiatives like online hackathons and virtual classrooms are instances of how technology fosters collaboration across borders. Thus, I strongly believe that technology brings us closer together by enabling shared learning.
