Nowadays, there is an argument about the effectiveness of sentencing alternatives instead of imprisonment to decrease the number of crimes. If authorities start giving lighter types of sentences, it could lead to people’s unserious relation to petty crimes; however reinforcing the cruelness of such light punishments, could become a solution.
One of the possible issues that could appear, is society’s unsevere attitude. Thus, the society’s point of view on crime commitment would become more accessible and simpler in realization. For example, the Mexican government often does not notice the regular robbery or ruthless fights. Therefore, on account of statistics, Mexico has one of the highest rates of criminality. Subsequently, the unsevere relation to crimes give too much freedom for people.
The solution could be harsher penalties. The nation’s well-being and rare crimes is a result of their persuasion that after committing crime, they could be prosecuted heavily. For instance, religious countries such as Saudi Arabia, have really low crime rates, due to violent estimation of offence, as amputation for theft. Consequently, the fear of tough repercussions is one of the main factors that prevent people from committing crimes.
To sum up, while lighter punishments could be appropriate, they should not be too gracious, as this may encourage crime.
