It is widely believed that teaching children a code of conduct and understanding right from wrong is the responsibility of parents. However, others argue that parents should primarily focus on providing financial support, housing, and educational opportunities for their children. From my perspective, parents are responsible for nurturing their children with discipline and ensuring they have the necessary resources, while teachers should expand this education into other areas, including discipline.
On one hand, there are several reasons why parents should instill discipline in their children. Firstly, parents know their children better than teachers do, as their character is developed in infancy, during which parents play a crucial role in guiding them to be obedient. They understand how to communicate and approach their children effectively. Additionally, children learn how to behave both at home and in public from their parents. Secondly, providing essential needs – such as housing, financial support, and moral guidance – is the responsibility of parents that begins at the child’s birth. Therefore, parental commitment to a child’s upbringing is critical for their future.
On the other hand, instilling discipline in children is also partly the responsibility of schools, where teachers are expected to maintain discipline in their classrooms. School life inherently involves regulating behavior, and students should be taught proper conduct by qualified teachers trained in various disciplinary techniques. If teachers fail to discipline disruptive children, the learning environment will suffer, impacting all students. Moreover, teachers cannot focus solely on discipline; they also need to impart knowledge in other subjects.
In conclusion, while teaching children proper behavior and academic subjects is a shared responsibility, I believe that parents serve as important role models for their children and are primarily responsible for providing an environment that fosters healthy development
