There is an ongoing debate about whether younger generations should follow social customs or behave individualistically. While individualism is of significance, I hold a belief that adhering to traditions and upholding them is a must for teenagers
It is not by accident that teenagers are required to stick to social traditions. Most time-tested values are derived from living experiences of older generations and were passed down for centuries; therefore helping create and maitain the deep connection between the past and the present. This is one of contributing factors to the cultivation of well-adjusted young citizens. For example, traditionally- minded Vietnamese parents instill in their children the significance of bowing to their seniors, which exhibits their deep respect and appreciation, thereby making them more adaptive and co-operative
On the other hand, there has been an emphasis on individualistic development. The initial reason with regard to this is that some traditions have sunk into oblivion due to the fact that they demonstrate a prejudiced view or simply no longer fit into modern-day society. The traditional mindset that women are responsible for all household chores is a typical example . Obviously, as for independent young women, they will defy this because of its biasedness and pursue freedom as a positive living statement. Another reason is that suppressing individualism can also deter creativity and innovation. For example, If parents force their children to follow traditional occupations to secure a better future without respecting their choice as well as preference , the creativity and potentials of these youngsters will be not nurtured and developed to the fullest.
In conclusion, my conviction is that the young are entitled to freely adopt and practice individual concepts as long as they match moral standards and construct sustainable values
