In today’s rapidly changing world, people hold differing views on whether young people should follow the traditional values of their society or be free to behave as individuals. While traditions are important for preserving cultural identity, i believe that young people should have the freedom to decide which traditions are worth maintaining. In this essay, I will evaluate both views before proposing my own opinion.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why young people should follow the traditions of their society. First, traditions help preserve cultural identity and pass important values from one generation to another. For example, traditional festivals, family customs and social practices can help young people understand their history and feel connected to their community. In addition, maintaining traditions in today’s society can help strengthen the connection between older and younger generations, encouraging young people to respect their elders and maintain strong family relationships. Therefore, traditions still play an essential role in creating a sense of belonging.
On the other hand, young people should have the freedom to develop their identities. Society is constantly changing, and some traditions may no longer be suitable for modern life. Young people also have their own thoughts, behaviours and characteristics. Therefore, they may not want to be restricted by outdated traditions. If young people are forced to follow every tradition, they may have fewer opportunities to express themselves or pursue their own interests. For instance, people should be able to choose their careers, clothing styles and hobbies, as long as they do not harm others. This freedom may also help them become independent and responsible adults. As a result, young people should not be forced to follow the traditions of their society, which are not suitable for their lifestyle.
In conclusion, while following traditions plays an important role in maintaining cultural identity and social values, young people should be given enough freedom to behave as individuals or make their own choices. I believe that the best approach is to strike a balance between cultural responsibility and individual freedom. Young people can learn from their traditions while still having the freedom to make decisions about their own lives.
