There are numerous people who want governments to allocate funds to searching for life in outer space, while others believe that given the myriad problems on our planet, spending money on space exploration is a waste of tax money. This essay will elaborate on both arguments and provide my opinion.
Discovering life on another planet would be a historic event for humanity. With global warming posing a significant threat to civilization and the deteriorating climate alarming humans about their future, it is essential to search for other life forms. Due to global warming, various regions, such as Asia and Africa, are experiencing climate changes that make these areas increasingly uninhabitable for humans. This is why it is important for governments to invest in exploring life in outer space to secure the future of the human race.
On the other hand, Earth has pressing issues that require immediate attention and resources. Problems like starvation, lack of clean water, and life-threatening diseases such as STDs or cancer demand large amounts of funding. Increasing government expenditure on space missions directly correlates with neglecting these urgent issues, potentially leading to the suffering and death of hundreds of thousands of people.
If governments focus exclusively on one area, the other will undoubtedly suffer. In my opinion, while it is crucial to address the pressing issues on Earth, investing in the search for extraterrestrial life is equally important. This investment could provide humanity with a second chance and potentially offer advanced knowledge from other life forms that could help us address Earth’s problems more effectively.
