Reading and watching news are believed to be time-consuming since it has no relation to their private lives. I disagree with this view because keeping up to date with novelties is necessary in order to have good judgment skills and planning.
People should read newspapers and watch news broadcasts for several reasons. First of all, they can receive important information about global and regional events, which inevitably will help them plan their lives well. If they are going to travel any destination, for example, learning about that place through news can make them decide whether to go or not. If it is unsafe for tourists, then they can change their mind. Moreover, reading news, they can have better analytical skills because of getting a variety of information. In this case, they can judge various situations better than those who never read the news.
Furthermore, by reading news regularly, people can improve their literacy skills, learn new words and phrases. Most people have no time to read long or thick books, while reading short paragraphs every day will keep their memory sharp. By listening to the news on television, they can have better listening skills and therefore become more patient and attentive to those who talk to them in real life. Although some news can be biased and may include more information about celebrities, such as in tabloids, they can be rejected by news consumers.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that being familiar with news through newspapers and television is crucial in order to be able to discuss the situations well and plan life events accordingly. Without the press, people would be less knowledgeable as well as illiterate.
