In recent years, crime has been a matter of great concern to the government and society. While it is argued that the causes of crime are largely to be found in people who are simply evil, I believe they result from poverty and other social deprivation.
On the one hand, there are some who think that criminals are simply bad people. In that way, social problems have not been taken into consideration. Instead, people focus more on the psychology of individuals who commit crimes. Other statistics also show that genetic factors play a considerable role in creating personalities, resulting in a life of crime. Based on those arguments, several punishments are implemented to deter people from evil.
On the other hand, while it is believed that bad people usually turn to criminals, I strongly think that criminal activities are caused by social problems. Specifically, people who are unemployed or in low-paid jobs usually have difficulties in earning money for a living, consequently committing crimes as the final measure. Therefore, having little money or lack of educational opportunities can completely lead to crimes. For example, the frequency of violence, robbery and even sexual offences are witnessed more in income-deprived areas. Families in such nations gradually become desperate, and domestic violence appears. Moreover, researchers show that the illiteracy rates in prison are higher than general education, due to insufficient educational programs.
In conclusion, while there are some implications to explain crimes caused by natural abilities, I totally believe that they result from social problems.
