Band 6+: Some universities now offer their courses on the Internet so that people can study online. Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Recently, online learning has been increasingly common in numerous academies across the globe. Several colleges now provide online courses for students so that they do not have to learn in classes. While this can offer a convenience in studying progress, I believe it is an unfavorable trend.

Granted, it is beneficial to students when learning onlines. This can provide a sense of flexibility when learning online courses, which enable students to learn at their pace without worrying about missing information. Because the learning materials have been recorded, students can revise their knowledge effortlessly, this may have a positive impact on students’ learning productivity and academic performance. Therefore, online courses have been a preferred option among universities.

However, learning from online tutorials can exert several detrimental effects on both students and teachers. Undoubtedly, learning online can deter students from social interaction, leading to poor communication skills. This can result in several obstacles when students have teamwork projects. Additionally, this development can decrease the number of educators, causing a high rate of unemployment in the educational field. If online tutorials are fully equipped widely, students will not need the assistance of teaching staff anymore, so teachers may lose their jobs. Therefore, I believe allowing students to access courses on the Internet can be a negative development.

In conclusion, whereas learning online can provide a high level of convenience for students, this can be perceived as a detrimental development due to its drawbacks to students and teaching staff. Therefore, educators should strike a balance between learning online and offline to maintain the development of students and the role of teachers.
