In the contemporary era, a virtual classroom gradually become more prevalent in university education. Despite the drawbacks of this trend, I strongly believe online learning platforms will bring a wide range of benefits to the people who use this form to acquire knowledge.
The main disadvantage of the trend toward online university courses is the lack of face-to-face interaction. Specifically, those engaging in classes on the Internet may not have opportunities to receive immediate answers from their teachers, and will instead have to rely on written forms of communication. Similarly, students who study online can find it challenging to have direct contact with each other, and this could have a negative impact on peer support, discussion, and exchange of ideas whenever they encounter problems in studying. For example, whereas students on traditional courses can attend seminars and even discuss their subjects over coffee after lessons, online learners are restricted to chatting through website forum areas. Consequently, these learners may also lack the motivation and elements of competition that face-to-face group work brings.
Apart from the adverse impacts, I am convinced that the widespread presence of Internet-based platforms would bring more positives. It is undeniable that cyber classrooms provide learners with a more flexible way than traditional ones. Particularly, students could partake in online university courses at any time from any place as long as they have an Internet connection as well as choose appropriate materials sources and teaching styles at their own pace. Furthermore, individuals who study on online platforms could retake lessons over and over again in order to have a better grasp of knowledge. Besides, the cost of a university education can be greatly reduced, while revenues for institutions may increase as more students can be taught. For illustration, my university has just organized remote courses for students who live in rural areas to give a chance them to study without moving to metropolitan cities, leading to a significant income after these classes are conducted.
In conclusion, while studying on the Internet in universities has some drawbacks, I firmly believe that this is a great development in the field of education.
