There has been much controversy about whether offering Internet-based courses brings more benefits than or drawbacks. From my perspective, the drawbacks of virtual courses clearly surpass its merit.
It is understandable why some people think providing courses on the Internet is beneficial. One clear advantages of this situation is that studying through Internet-based courses provide flexibility and conveniences. This is due to the fact that online courses are available anytime and anywhere. This is beneficial to working adults and single mom, as they may access quality education.
However, i believe there are stronger drawbacks to putting forward Internet courses. One downside of this trend is that students can be distracted. The reason is studying at home; for example, notifications from mobile phone or noises from construction sites nearby. This leads to lack of focus and poorer academic performance. Moreover, another disadvantage is that students have little interaction with other people such as classmates, professors. This is because they are unable to engage in in-person conversations. Such a drawback can be especially detrimental to students to complete cooperative tasks such as group assignments, group revisions. Furthermore, they can face challenging for subjects that require collaboration.
In conclusion, it is apparent that providing virtual courses offers more disadvantages than advantages.
