In the era of global interconnectedness, there is a common belief that home-based university curriculums can replace traditional education programs that are taught on campus. In my opinion, I believe this trend has both merit and demerit. This essay will examine both sides and explain the reasons I favor both.
To begin with, learning from home with full ability and access like on campus might bring numerous benefits. Firstly, because diligence is usually directly proportional to advancement, students in college usually have to work around the clock to finish their assignments. So, online courses help them to save a huge amount of time commuting. For example, with a distance of 20km, I had to spend 2 hours per day commuting to my university for 5 years, It consumed a massive number of hours that I had to spend on transport. Moreover, this trend can help to reduce significantly pressure on the metropolis’s environment by diluting pollution emitted from traffic vehicles. During 2 years of a global pandemic, a great number of reports were showing the merit aspects affecting a circumstance of environmental pollution.
On the other side, studying on screen might have some drawbacks. The first one comes from technology devices and connections. This type of education requires high-tech devices and fast connection to ensure a quality of curriculum. For instance, without a multi-tasking device for listening lessons, noting information, and summarising ideas at the same time, you couldn’t catch up with that study process. Additionally, when learning from a distance, students are unable to reflect on themselves because they don’t have a method to receive feedback to adjust their behaviors, leading to a lack of self-improvement.
In conclusion, I believe that educating university programs by online methods might bring numerous benefits but they also have significant drawbacks. Soon, with the advent of high-tech development, I’m hoping for a revolution in education.
