Band 6+: Studies have suggested that children watch much more television than they did in the past and spend less time on active or creative things. What are the reasons and what measures should be taken to encourage children to spend more time on active or creative things?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this day and age it is considered that young people spend less time on creative or active things and they tend to watch TV instead. Lifestyle can be a factor of a such change in children’s attitude, however older people can manage to switch this behavior by a positive influence.

The new generation is behaved by a different worldview. For example, the lifestyle of modern children consists of pure comfort and facilities. It suggests, that young people now can choose whether to stay home and watch TV to relax their mind or to do something productive, which obviously will require more time and brain power. Assuming, the style of a modern life is what makes children get bored quickly or ignore the need to fight laziness – easier path is the best path for them so they choose TV. Additionally, technologies are taking over the world nowadays so TV experience has improved significantly. Moreover, TV has now become affordable and even the cheapest TV offers good quality and content.

Regarding the measures to change the current situation with children’s behavior.

It appears that parents should purposely cut down TV time by giving their children an example themselves. For instance, it is common for adults to spend their spare time watching television after a day of work, therefore children take a such reference for granted and then copying this behavior. A possible solution is to help children learn about many different interesting and exciting activities other than TV. Additionally, adults could also help younger people develop creativity

In conclusion, the main reason of the change in children’s behavior is the lifestyle and the measures that can possibly be taken are showing the example to children and spending more time with them.

Although both nature and nurture play a role in personality, a number of large scale twin studies suggest that there is a strong genetic component. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The personality of a human is shaped by several attributes. As individuals grow up, the society in which they thrive, contributes largely to their personality. Although factors like nature and nurture play a role in personality development, I strongly agree with the claim that genetics play a more significant role in this process. Nature, environment […]
