Research has shown that many young people today prefer communicating on the internet than meeting friends face-to-face. The reasons behind this are cheap and accessibility of technology and I will suggest measures which can be taken to promote time with friends physically.
Social media has become cheap recently. Therefore, many young adults have resorted to texting and video calling and abandoned the old fashioned way of socialising. Often, they are finding it neccessary than spending on transport costs, such as bus fare from one city to another. For example, classmates can have a conference video call when they are in different neighbourhoods at a very low data cost.
Introducing social activities can overcome this issue. Teenagers could be encouraged through activities like swimming, debates and yoga so that they come together and interact to relieve them from their phones and social distancing. This enables communication skills and teamwork amongst them and at the same time improving their health status by doing exercises. Another measure could be spending time with their parents at home. Parents must have time to socialise with their children when they are home, especially when mothers are doing house chores they must allow their kids to join them and help them with dishes. Consequently, it restrict them from spending more time on their phones.
In conclusion, teenagers spend most of their time chatting on the internet socialising because it has become less expensive. However, hobbies and good parenting skills can help teenagers to get back meet one another personally.
