More and more teenagers opt to immerse themselves in a virtual life rather than interact with others in person. From my perspective, this is attributed to two main motives and its repurcussion can be minimized by some solutions.
The attribute of anonymity is an irresistable temptation of online life. As a matter of fact, users can choose what personal information they demand to publish; therefore, people can establish a perfect virtual image with ease. Some young people, in the more serious scenario, even display false data about themselves as social platforms have no verification tools. Dishonest teenagers, for instance, even set up a delusional life with different physical appearance and identity. This mentioned feature feeds their ego. leading to their unhealthy preference. Besides, social networking sites such as Facebook or Instagram are designed to be addictive. Users are involved in an online competition of likes and shares. Particularly, one post accidentally gets viral with thousands of likes and comments, enticing them to do more. This battle has become even more toxic regard those with low self-esteem as they utilize the unauthentic lives to escape from stressful ones.
There are some feasible actions that governments and individuals can take to facilitate human interaction among teenagers. First and foremost, more initiatives should be conducted in order to raise their awareness about the repercussions and the moderation of using social media. They should be equipped with hidden dangers like cyberbullying and or scams from non-verifed platforms. Moreover, individuals should commence to nuture their self-esteem by reading more books or playing sports. The inner strength renders people confident about expressing their opinions and true personality without any virtual masks.
In conclusion, the fact that the youngsters indulge themselves in online sites in lieu of face-to-face communications stems from their desire of staying anynomous and the addictive attribute of the Internet. Thus, Internet users should be learnt about the consequences and mentally cultivated.
