Professional athletes can have more lucrative income than idividuals in other essential fields. While proponents posit that it is entirely equitable, others hold an opposing view. This essay will delve into both sides before drawing a logical conclusion.
On the one hand, it is noteworthy that athletes in some sports like football, ice-skating…have to undergo such strenous trainning schemes, resulting in their suffering from serious injuries or may be at risk of losing their careers. For example, Rafael Nadal is famous for his intensive tranning method, but the demanding schedule also led to a series of injuries throughout his career. Another feasible explanation is that athletes who win medals in international competitions can bring glory to their own countries. This, as a result, will enhance the country’s international reputation and even attract greater investment in sports development. All this reasons explain why professional atheletes deserve to earn higher income.
On the other hand, opponents argue that it is unjustified for other jobs to earn less money than successful sports professionals. Doctors, teachers or fire fighters make significant contributions to our society, but yet they are often paid much less than professional athletes. Those professions also put a lot of effort, dedicate their time and sometimes even their life into teaching and rescuing people. Another justification worth mentioning here is that while sports professionals only make an indirect cotribution to the country, education and healthcare play the key role in the development of the society. without qualified teachers and doctors, it would be difficult for any coutry to maintain sustainable fourishment.
In conclusion, after all aforementioned arguements are discussed, i believe that although athletes work extremely hard and have relatively short careers, other professions make a more direct contribution to country. So, while their earnings make sense from a business perspective, I don’t think they should necessarily be paid more than every other profession.
