In the recent digital age, it is widely believed that mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and laptop computers, make it more accessible to play games or enjoy movies at any time. Perspectively, I am of the opinion that the drawbacks of this development far outweigh the benefits.
Concerning the positive side, it is undeniable that this accessibility can be advantageous to a certain extent. Regarding the first advantage, it can fulfill responsive demands of individuals. This is because most devices have streamable libraries which lead to a more flexible leisure planning for people. They will have more opportunities to relax and also ease the stress from the hustle and bustle of life. Moreover, it is also noteworthy that this development is a valuable means of bonding. Taking far away friendships as an example, with mobile devices, they can still interact and have fun with each other by playing online games or watching movies together through a video call despite living far away.
Nevertheless, I firmly concur that this technological progress bears more problematic disadvantages for several reasons. Chief among these is that potential screen addiction may occur. The explanation for this is that overusing recreational devices can create a dependency on screen-based entertainment, which may even lead to illegal activities such as online gambling or accessing pirated content in order to be on screen time constantly. Social isolation may be another notable issue. It is recorded a lot nowadays that the virtual world makes these individuals no longer need to interact in real life, making it harder for them to develop communication skills or maintain strong real-life relationships.
In conclusion, although there are several advantages of technological advancement on the accessibility of entertainment nowadays, overusing them can also bring numerous negative impacts on individuals’ mental health.
