Nowadays, most young people do not spend their holidays or weekends doing outdoor activities such as climbing in natural environments. The reasons for the lack of outdoor activities are increased screen time and lack of awareness. To solve this issue, governments should encourage young people to do more outdoor exercises, by organizing community events and integrating outdoor education in high schools.
One of the reasons young people are inactive in outdoor activities is increased periods of screen time. Increased use of technology has attracted people, making them inactive and lazy. People spending excessive time on their smartphones, especially younger members of society. This trend is leading them to lose interest in outdoor activities. Secondly, many people don’t know about these activities due to living in busy and industrialized cities. In these urban areas, outdoor activities like hiking and climbing in mountains are less accessible, making these activities less common among the young generation.
To address this issue, governments should encourage community events which will help them provoke interest in these activities. Communities can host events like hiking clubs or competitions, fostering participants’ interests and encouraging them to do more active tasks. Another solution for this matter is integrating outdoor education in schools, making students more aware of these activities and their benefits. This will give them a new way of spending their weekends and holidays meaningfully.
In conclusion, increased use of technology and lack of awareness of outdoor activities have made young people inactive. To tackle this issue communities should host clubs and competitions to make young people more interested in outdoor activities. Additionally, educating people from a young age at schools may also help encourage them.
