Band 8+: Task 2: Some people believe that employers should not be concerned about the way their employees dress, but they should be concerned about the quality at work. To what extent do you agree and disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It has been argued that employers should focus more on work quality rather than the dress codes of their staff. Personally, I agree with this viewpoint, and I will discuss some compelling reasons in this essay.

On one hand, the role of fashion in the workplace is significant in various situations and can bring companies benefits while projecting their professionalism. Firstly, a dress code is essential for portraying a well-presented workforce. When staff members wear similar types of clothing that create a professional appearance, it reflects positively on the company’s reputation. As a result, this can have a positive ripple effect on individual employees and lead to creating more opportunities for the business, such as networking contacts or increased revenues. Additionally, having strict rules regarding attire also protects the employees themselves. For example, when someone prefers comfortable clothing for work, they may experience social isolation because the community perceives those clothes as inappropriate. Furthermore, if a group of employees establishes their own dress code, it may distance them from other workers.

On the other hand, prioritizing the quality of work can take precedence over concerns about attire. In this modern era, a strict dress code may be perceived as outdated. Consequently, instead of generating profits for the companies, it can become a financial burden due to the costs associated with uniforms and the potential damage to the company’s image. Moreover, work quality encompasses more than just clothing; it includes important elements that contribute to a company’s success. There are many essential aspects in the workplace that go beyond mere dressing. For instance, if a leader decides to enhance facilities and create a friendly environment, it can boost employees’ determination, motivation, and creativity. Ultimately, the company can gain more advantages from these improvements.

In conclusion, while I support the opinion that employers should prioritize work quality, I also believe that the role of staff attire should not be underestimated.
