In recent years, it is debated on whether history is useless and tells us nothing, or whether is it useful for understand the present. While many people may not be satisfied by the history, in my opinion, it is crucial for people to understand the present as it encourages governments to not repeat the past mistakes and shape national identity and culture.
On the one hand, history has nothing to do with people who are not interested in it or for ones whose field do not relate to history. For example, residents who work in the field of IT or medicine do not value history mainly because it does not helps them to understand or improve their knowledge about the field. Which is why it is more practical for them to focus on development of their chosen field rather than relying on history for this.
On the other hand, history encourages governments to avoid past mistakes that are done by previous emperors or kings. This type of data helps authorities to prevent any economic issues and gain the trust of its residents. For example, the ruler of the Republic of Uzbekistan tend to control his government with the help of book called ‘ Temur tuzuklari’ which is written by one of the greatest ruler in the past, and includes every secrets and methods to deal with economic problems and improve the relationship between the society and the government. Furthermore, the history helps to strengthen the bonds of the culture within the society. For instance, by conducting events focused on certain religions or by reviving a specific culture, authorities would be able to enhance the commitment of their residents to the country.
In conclusion, many people do not value history mainly because it do not help them with their own work, while I believe it is crucial for governments to utilize the information provided in histories, as it helps them circumvent the possible risks and events that have happened in the past.
