In the contemporary world, given the possibility that space tourism becoming accessible for general public, some individuals hold the belief that there will be a more development in the near future. While there are both benefits and drawbacks in space travel, I ultimately suppose it is a negative development.
On the one hand, one of the most significant advantages of space tourism is this industry can contribute to greater growth of the whole society. Apparently, more job opportunities would be created in order to meet the increasing demands of space tourism, and this can minimize the unemployment rate in the future. When space traveling companies generate more revenues from tourists, they can pay more taxes for national budget so that the authorities can upgrade other public infrastructures and services. Another merits is that space travel could encourage the exploration of new resources and discoveries, which is believed to benefit long-term growth in humanity and the planet. An illustration of this is space travel assistance in advance scientific knowledge in the origin of life, the solar system, and the universe, which could be proven to be valuable for persistent growth, thereby devoting to sustainable development of humanity.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that the demerits of travelling in space further outweigh its pros. One main challenges is the concern about the safety of space tourists and the spaceship. Space travel can pose potential hazards, such as collision with space debris, extreme temperature, radiation exposure, and health problems causing by microgravity environment. These risks could result in serious injuries or even fatalities to the space travellers, as well as damage and loss of spacecraft. Another barrier is the exorbitant cost of traveling into space with only a tiny, wealthy minority could afford such trips. Instead, resources allocated to space tourism could be invested into pressing global priorities such as renewable energy, public health, or climate mitigation, where returns are more equitable and socially productive.
In conclusion, despite the space tourism’s benefits in social growth and facilitating integral discoveries, I believe it is a negative development since space travel face notable challenges such as safety and the price barrier that need to be carefully addressed and regulated.
