Nowadays, many people imitate one another, especially in fashion, as they copy each other’s clothes and consumer goods. I firmly agree with this view because social media influencers and celebrities significantly influence people’s purchasing decisions. Furthermore, people often copy each other because of their desire to improve their social status.
On the one hand many individuals are influenced by social media content creators and public figures. This happens because these influencers create new fashion trends, and people see these trends on social media and want to try by themselves and follow them. Even when the products promoted by celebrities or influencers are expensive, consumers in attempt to follow trends purchase alternative ones which look similar but costs less. For instance, across the internet there are thousands of replicas of popular brands such as Nike, Gucci and Louis Vuitton available online. As a result, this demonstrates that people
are willing to follow fashion trends even though it will cost them fortune.
On the other hand, individuals desire to improve their social status is another reason why they imitate others. Nowadays many people want to look different from who they are. They do so because they want to appear wealthy. On social media, they frequently see videos with content that shows the luxurious lifestyles of rich people, which influences them. Consequently, in an attempt to follow these trends, they imitate these individuals and purchase similar products that break their bank.
In conclusion, I agree that the trend to imitate one another in fashion happens because of social media influencer and celebrities because they encourage people to purchase their products, while the desire of looking rich can also encourage them to buy products even though they can end up costing them dearly.
